Lifeguard I

The City of Peoria seeks to hire a Lifeguard I in the Parks & Recreation Department to provide excellent customer service to all pool patrons by exemplifying a positive attitude and exceeding the needs of patrons. This position handles financial transactions, registrations, refunds, data entry, balances daily cash reports, tests pool chemicals, and ensures a fun and safe environment for all patrons. This position is the first point of contact for all patrons entering the pools and is expected to greet everyone as they arrive. The Lifeguard I serves as a pool cashier and lifeguard during open swim and swim lesson hours.

The full hiring range for this position is $15.51-$19.39.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Greet all patrons arriving at the facility, answer inquiries about the Aquatics programming and provide information to patrons.
  • Process swim lesson registrations, open swim fees, other pool transactions, and balance daily cash reports prior to leaving the facility.
  • Assist with the inventory for pool and office supplies.
  • Assist with the distribution and collection of evaluations and complete required paperwork, as needed.
  • Participate in all in-service training through the seasons.
  • Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
  • Provide assistance in the mentoring of Junior Lifeguards.
  • Assist with pool maintenance projects and assignments, as needed, and perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Pool Manager and Head Pool Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Education: No minimum requirement.
  • Certification/License: Must possess a current American Red Cross or Starguard Lifeguarding Certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic knowledge of computers for registration/data input.
  • Water rescue and lifesaving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
  • Excellent customer service principles.
